A LEVEL EXAM SUCCESS 2021

Admm8h | 10 August 2021

Today’s results for the pupils of Lord Wandsworth College are a statement that even with the most challenging years in decades experienced by our students and those across the globe, the outstanding relationship between them and their teachers and a commitment to innovation and redesigning learning, has seen them flourish. There were many outstanding stories, with over 56% of results being grades A*-A, nearly 80% A*-B and a pass rate of 100%. The year group further achieved an almost clean sweep of A* and A grades in their Extended Project Qualification as they took and applied their subject knowledge to university degree level.

The past few years have seen Teaching and Learning transform at LWC, and this year it was the turn of departments such as Chemistry, Physics, Art and English, to shine a light on the ways in which the school is reimagining education.

These achievements are within the context of record investment in pupils and facilities (an £8.5m Science Centre opens in January 2022 and a refurbished theatre will be ready by September 2021), record demand for places and pupil numbers, not to mention the third national award in as many years, this time for looking after vulnerable children. Positive wellbeing and mental health are at the heart of our community.

On an individual level, huge congratulations, in particular, go to Tom Ball, Michael Clark, Jack Henry, Toby Honey, Gemma Lane, Alex McKinnon, Oliver Ward, Connor Wienszczak, Oliver Wills who all achieved 3 A*s, as well as Hugo Donnelly, Sam Hemmings-Maher, Jack Hine, Tabitha Warnes and Harvey Wilson all of whom achieved a raft of A* and A grades. Connor (Biochemistry) and Jack (Engineering) have won places at Oxford and Cambridge respectively.

Adam Williams, Headmaster said, “it is wonderful to see our pupils flourishing in subjects which require collaboration and innovation, and having the courage to learn in the margins, not simply what is on the syllabus. As the national exam landscape seems to narrow ever further, our pupils continue to keep their choices broad, interconnected and curious – essential 21st century skills to embrace. They continue to be supported by inspirational teachers too, who strive constantly for new and innovative ways to deliver the joy of their subjects.”
