Joining Sixth
Form

LWC

1200 acres of opportunity

Our students consistently achieve excellent exam results, while still enjoying our extensive co-curricular programme and many leadership opportunities, making these two years at LWC very special indeed.

The LWC Sixth Form and opportunity to experience boarding provides excellent preparation for the demands of university and adult life. Students are given the freedom to develop their independence, to explore new interests, and to rise to leadership opportunities, alongside their academic commitments.

There is a natural entry point to join in Lower Sixth and each year we welcome between 20 – 30 new students. Our size means we are able to offer a wide range of A-levels and Btecs whilst also offering individual attention, support and warmth that a tighter-knit community provides.

Assessment

Our current requirement for entry into the Sixth Form is a minimum of six Grade 5s at GCSE (or the equivalent), preferably with Grade 7s in the subjects to be studied at A Level.

Places are offered on the basis of an interview with the academic team and Head of Sixth Form, academic assessment, predicted GCSE results and a reference from the pupil’s current school.

We hold Assessment Days in Dec and Feb. During the day students are interviewed by our Deputy Head (Academic) and Assistant Deputy Head (Academic) and our Head of Sixth Form

Students are asked to complete an essay as part of their assessment and to participate in a group discussion with the Headmaster.

As part of our assessment we are also looking for students who will thrive in our community and embrace breadth of offering here at the College.

Assessment Information

Offer of a Place

The assessment process for the first round takes place towards the end of the Autumn term, with offers made in January. The second assessment day takes places at the end of February with offers made in March. Occasionally, a small number of places are available after this point.

There are 3 types of offer status: Unconditional Offer, Wait List Offer and Decline.

If your young person has received a wait list offer, it means that there is currently no place available. However, please know that we believe your child would thrive with us — the only reason we cannot offer a place is due to high demand exceeding the number of available places. We do anticipate some movement on the waiting list and remain hopeful that we will be able to offer a place in due course.

All places are specifically for day, flexi, weekly or full boarding.
