BODY-Athletics

Aims:

To encourage all pupils who participate in athletics to achieve a high level of skill acquisition and execution relative to their ability.

To enable athletes to learn the skills needed to perform the track and field events to compete at district standard as a minimum.

To facilitate specialisation in and achievement of excellence in the preferred event of each athlete.

To encourage fun and competition for athletes of all abilities.

What we do:

Training and competition in the summer term for all athletes, at least 2 sessions per week.

We have a team of experienced coaches amongst the staff led by Ben Hazell, a top UK Decathlete.

Each team is managed by Ben Hazell. We field teams for both boys and girls in U13, U14, U15, U17 and U19 age groups.

Athletes compete at local and district level, with the most talented competing at County and English Schools Championships.

A warm weather training trip to Club la Santa in Lanzarote is organised in alternate years, which offers the athletes the chance to train as full-time athletes for a week combined with the opportunity to cross-train and try out a number of different sporting activities. There is also an opportunity to participate in a number of multi-event competitions, either individually or in teams.
