International Pupils

LWC 1

The College welcomes pupils from all over the world and really values the contribution they make to our community. Our stunning 1200-acre campus is less than an hour from Heathrow Airport and central London. Hook Station, a ten-minute drive away, has a direct rail connection to London Waterloo. We are 30 minutes away from the historic city of Winchester and just over an hour to Oxford and the New Forest.

We offer our international boarders a home from home, allowing them to immerse themselves into the British culture in a wonderfully friendly and supportive way. All pupils join one of our eight boarding houses and have the support of their Houseparent and, of course, their Matron. In addition, all pupils are assigned a personal tutor who is responsible for both the academic and pastoral care of pupils and is always on hand to answer any questions or offer advice to both parents and pupils if needed.

Boarding

With just over 680 pupils on roll we are small enough to really know our students, yet big enough to offer an extensive range of facilities and a broad curriculum. Our students consistently achieve excellent exam results, while still enjoying our extensive co-curricular activities and leadership opportunities. In our Sixth Form, a growing focus on life after school means our pupils develop greater confidence and ambition as they prepare for university and beyond.

LWC 3

Our Head of Boarding organises a series of trips and activities at the weekends. Boarders can suggest trips they would like to go on and activities they would like to try. Recent trips include days out in Windsor and Winchester and visits to our local golf centre and to the cinema. Our extensive co-curricular programme includes activities such as golf, performing arts, Science clubs, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, and much more.

LWC 2

We have a special interest in the pastoral care of all our overseas students and we aim to help them settle happily into their new environment. The International Students Association exists to promote the interests of international students and enriches the school by drawing upon the cultural diversity with the student population.

More information

  • Admissions

All registered candidates are invited to attend our online international pupil’s assessment day and sit the LWC online academic test, which can be taken either at their current school or, if they are in the UK, at the College. They will also have an interview with the Headmaster as well as with a senior member of staff, such as a Houseparent.

Candidates entering at Sixth Form may be asked to sit tests in the subjects they are thinking of studying at A Level, and whilst they do not need to have taken an IELTS assessment prior to entry, the expected level of English for Sixth Form is IELTS 5.5+.

  • English as an Additional Language (EAL)
Our Curriculum Support department and our EAL specialist supports pupils for whom English is an additional language. Teaching is provided in a supportive environment and aims to set pupils on a path to independent learning and success. Lessons are provided by experienced teachers in small groups.
  • Guardians

All students whose parents do not live in the UK are required to have a UK based guardian. This can be a family member or friend or, alternatively, an AEGIS accredited guardian (aegisuk.net).

Guardians must be contactable and able to accommodate the pupil in the case of an emergency and when school is closed, for example at half terms and exeat weekends. All guardians must be able to act with the full authority of parents.

  • Sponsorship
We are a UKVI licence holder and able to sponsor international students under the student visa scheme. Please contact the admissions team for more details (admissions@lordwandsworth.com)
