Spanish

LWC 2

Vivir es aprender – To live is to learn

The Spanish department is a lively, communicative and vibrant place, in which communication and enjoyment of language is put at the heart of everything we do.

Each pupil at LWC studies a language and many take up the opportunity to study more than one. We have pupils who start Spanish in scratch from first form, some start in third form, many take it for GCSE study, and it is a wonderful A Level option!

We offer: exciting and dynamic CLIL approach, language clinics, Spanish film opportunities, Languages prefects, Spanish homestay trip for GCSE and A Level pupils.

We have an MFL wide innovative approach to language learning from first form, in which we have adopted a CLIL style approach. This engages pupil to ‘learn through a language’ as opposed to ‘learn a language’. As such pupil engagement, enjoyment and cultural knowledge of the Spanish speaking world is put to the fore. Language learning in this style embraces our school-wide A2RH approach and builds academic resilience from our pupils, in a supportive, exciting and enriching manner.

We are staffed by a mixture of native and non-native teachers which supports our pupils well. AQA Spanish GCSE starts from Third Form and we also follow AQA for our A Level groups. We are supported by a Spanish language assistant, who delivers speaking support across the age ranges and individual 1:1 lessons for our Sixth Form pupils.
