The Foundation
Bereavement is devastating at any age, but for a child it can be particularly life-changing, as it often represents the closing of a world they knew and understood.
LWC was founded to broaden the opportunities of orphans whose worlds had tragically contracted over night. Today, dozens of Foundationers are still an important part of our community, inspiring and surprising us every year.
Our Foundation pupils find comfort and a sense of belonging within our community, they join a close-knit group where children feel supported and understood, surrounded by peers who share similar experiences.
We are a trauma informed school and understand how to help each child navigate their grief at their own pace. Through a range of extracurricular activities, creative outlets, and a focus on personal well-being, we encourage children to discover their strengths and build resilience.
We are a Royal National Children’s Springboard Foundation school and work closely with Buttle UK, the NFL Trust and many other charities. Our Patron, Ugo Monye, the former international rugby star and broadcaster, was himself a Foundation pupil, is a testament to the transformational potential of the charity.
“This is a charity close to my heart, as the Foundation supported me through my schooling. Lord Wandsworth College opened up so many opportunities for me, gave me an incredible education, and got me to pick up a rugby ball for the first time! I am so excited to help shape the future for the next generation.”.
We believe in nurturing every student’s potential, providing the support they need to flourish. Our Foundation pupils, in particular, benefit from a unique blend of academic support and pastoral care, designed to help them navigate their journey with confidence and resilience.
Each Foundationer is partnered with an older student who has experienced a similar journey, offering guidance and friendship. As they prepare to leave LWC, we connect them with alumni who can offer support and insight into life beyond school. It’s our way of ensuring that every child, regardless of their story, feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
