Autumn Term Ends on a High
This year’s LWC Carols and Christmas Market was the perfect way to close another extraordinary calendar year in the 1200.
An open-air carol service was expertly hosted by our Heads of College and showcased the talent of our Music Department.
The magical fireworks display provided a perfect finale to the on-stage performances, before everyone headed back to our largest ever Christmas Market, featuring more than 50 local stallholders and their artisan goods.
The community at LWC is a strong one and nothing beats celebrating together.
LWC Ranks in Top 1%
This summer saw LWC students achieving record-breaking A-level & BTEC results and making exceptional progress in their GCSE years.
As a result, the College has been awarded Alps 1 status. This means that we have been placed in the top 1% of schools and colleges nationally when it comes to the progress made by students in Sixth Form.
Angela Watson, LWC Deputy Head (Academic) added, “This is the highest possible rating for schools and a clear sign that something rather special is happening at LWC. Our pupils aren’t just doing well; they’re soaring beyond expectations.”

The Changing Face of the 1200
Students at LWC have been reaping the rewards of a multi-million pound investment in our facilities.
The Barn is phase one of our Sport, Fitness, Health and Adventure Centre and opened in September. This sector-leading strength and conditioning space is part of our commitment to encouraging sport, fitness and health as part of a lifelong adventure.
The Summercombe Centre – our new learning support hub and home to our much-expanded SEN & Inclusion Team, has also opened to students. “This is their space and it’s a safe space. It’s somewhere they can be listened to and their voices heard,” explained LWC’s Senior Head of SEN & Inclusion, Dr Brigitte Wood.
For our Year 7 and 8’s (1st and 2nd Form), the £1 million pound transformation of Bramley House continues. “It feels bright, airy, refreshed and ready for 21st-century boarding,” reflected Bramley Houseparent, Pete Maidment.
And our new Library at the heart of campus, sits among the treetops in a warm and welcoming space, designed to foster a love of literature from the outset. Bodes well as we enter The National Year of Reading in 2026.
What Do Others Say?
Nothing quite beats positive word of mouth.
This year, LWC has received glowing reviews from The Good Schools Guide and Talk Education following visits from both.
Some of our favourite snippets include:
“Nurturing in every sense, LWC boasts exceptional grounds… homely boarding and a sense of community, coupled with a passion for success.” (The Good Schools Guide)
“It’s an exciting time to be a pupil at LWC. A school with strong roots and real momentum.” (Talk Education)

Striding Ahead in Sport
LWC has started the school year strongly when it comes to sport.
Our U15A Girls’ Football Team is through the quarter-finals of the ISFA Cup, whilst also remaining in the ISFA Shield and SnS Trophy.
Our U15A Boys’ Team has also made it through to the quarter-final stages of the ISFA Bowl.
LWC’s rugby season remains alive with the U16As and U14As both into the final 16 of the School Sport Magazine National Schools Cup for their respective age groups.
Our U14A Girls’ Netball Team is gearing up to play in the quarter-finals of the U14 SnS Trophy and the U14 County Championships in Eastleigh, after Christmas.
And last but certainly not least, our Marathon Canoe Teams have hit the water running – emerging victorious from the National Schools Kayak Championships in November.
They brought home trophies for Novice Marathon, Best Overall Novice Team, Combined Novice Sprint and Ladies Team.
Thomas Sets Out to Save Lives
Upper Sixth Former, Thomas hit the headlines this term.
Together with friends, he designed a parabolic solar cooker capable of boiling water quickly and cheaply, in a bid to halt the spread of deadly diseases such as cholera.
They travelled to Zimbabwe to showcase their designs to villagers and to leave locals with the blueprints to build their own cookers.
They’ve since developed and manufactured a second model, and this summer donated 50 units to hospitals, schools and charities in the African country.
“I was very excited to be in Zimbabwe,” explained Thomas. “To see more than one hundred villagers using our product. It was a very inspiring moment. Before this, engineering was theoretical, but this has allowed us to see the wider impact it can have. Engineering relates to real life and can help people. It can heal and provide better living conditions for those who also have big dreams.”
