Welcome to the 1200

Summer is here and another spectacular year at LWC has drawn to a close.
We promised that we would keep you posted on the termly highlights from our 1200 acres and the last 11 weeks have provided us with an embarrassment of riches to choose from.
Alongside GCSE, A-level and BTEC exams taking place, there have been a variety of co-curricular trips leaving and returning to the College and our annual end-of-year celebrations.
We look forward to you being a part of it all in the future!
Have a wonderful summer and if you have any questions for us, please don’t hesitate to get in touch – we’re here throughout the holidays.

LWC Girls Crowned ISFA Champions
LWC’s U15A Girls’ Football Team are officially history-makers.
They lifted the ISFA U15 Girls’ Shield in May and became the most successful female football team in the history of LWC.
The team was cheered on by coachloads of students and staff who had made the journey to the headquarters of the Hertfordshire Football Association in Letchworth Garden City for the final.
“This group’s season has been defined by hard work, resilience, and togetherness,” reflected LWC’s Head of Football, Georgia Bowers. “Reaching the semi-final of the ISFA Cup and lifting the ISFA Shield reflects not just their results, but the belief, growth, and team spirit they’ve built along the way.”
From this September, football becomes part of the Year 7 and 8 experience at LWC, for both boys and girls. You can read more about these game-changers on our website.
An Extraordinary Performance
Audiences were transported to the trenches of Belgium for LWC’s production of Private Peaceful last week.
Michael Morpurgo’s classic tale tells the story of Thomas Peaceful, a soldier who finds himself reflecting upon his short life whilst serving on the front line during World War 1.
“It was a tender, heartbreaking story about loyalty, love, courage and the terrible human cost of war,” reflected Co-director and Teacher of Drama, Matt McGrath.
The next whole school production by LWC’s Performing Arts Department will be Beauty & the Beast at The Haymarket in Basingstoke from Wednesday, 20th to Friday, 22nd January 2027.
Autumn Evolution
LWC Head, Adam Williams, maintains that “The best schools never sit still.” And whilst students enjoy a well-earned break this summer, changes are being made across the campus, in preparation for September.
The start of Autumn Term will see the opening of The Grove: our new home for the creative arts. Art, Design, Textiles, Ceramics, Computer Science, Film and Media will be part of this hub, designed to inspire creative thought.
The Barn, our multi-million-pound fitness centre, will receive new changing areas, a rehabilitation room and a welcoming reception space to sit alongside sector-leading cardio and conditioning equipment.
And there will be changes to the curriculum that aim to prepare students for life. These include a new Year 7 programme, designed to harness and develop prized skills, whilst utilising our inspiring 1200 acres. We will also launch a Performance Dance and new-look Performance Canoe Programme to add to our array of Performance Pathways.
Speech Day Rounds off Summer Term
LWC’s Speech Day is a celebration of just what makes LWC so special.
This annual event was held on the last weekend of June and began with a Presentation of Colours for members of the Upper Sixth Form who have made a valued contribution to Sport, Performing Arts, Creative Arts, Service or Leadership.
This was followed by the LWC community coming together for prizes awarded to students from all year groups and to reflect on an inspiring ten months.
Finally, our outgoing Upper Sixth were applauded through the Acorn Gates for the final time as they made their way towards the next exciting step in their journey.
Record-Breaking Running
LWC Upper Sixth Former, Phoebe is on a mission to become the youngest woman to run the length of the UK.
The 18-year-old completed her A-levels in mid-June and immediately travelled to John o’ Groats to begin running the 1000+ miles between the northern tip of Scotland and Land’s End.
Phoebe, who admits she was once ‘unathletic,’ fell in love with running after completing the Stern Challenge at LWC, a 100km relay race, back in Year 10.
After a conversation with Head, Adam Williams, who told her the story of endurance runner, Imogen Boddy, Phoebe was inspired to take on the ultimate challenge before embarking upon a medicine degree in September.
Phoebe is fundraising for the transformative Lord Wandsworth Foundation and the National Autistic Society as she goes, and we couldn’t be prouder.
Street Food Fun
This is not any school food; this is LWC food.
The College Catering Team held a Street Food Festival for students and staff last month.
Stalls were laid out in the sunshine offering everything from Thai green curry to Hampshire hog roast and souvlaki kebabs to New York dirty dogs.
The aim was to encourage students to try new foods and graze on favourites.
“We wanted to bring social connection through food,” explained LWC Head Chef, Adrian Culver.
LWC Tackles Three Peaks
You’ll soon learn that you are as much a part of LWC as your children and that offers all kinds of opportunities.
20 LWC parents, staff and alumni raised over £20,000 for the Lord Wandsworth Foundation by tackling the Yorkshire Three Peaks in April.
The group trekked 30 miles across one of the country’s most rugged landscapes, whilst summiting the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales.
“It was an incredible experience,” explained LWC Philanthropy Manager, Fran Reid. “We all enjoyed a weekend defined by a shared sense of achievement, camaraderie, friendship and a collective commitment to support the Lord Wandsworth Foundation.”
You can read all about our triumphant trekkers here. The next LWC Challenge will take place in September 2027, when our adventurers will travel along the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain. Will you be joining them?
