Welcome to LWC News

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to LWC News! We are delighted to introduce our exciting news platform, a dedicated space to share all our stories. This platform has replaced the Week Ahead format you are familiar with, still providing links to all the important dates, along with additional news stories. The first three links you will see will direct you to our school calendar, LWC Sports (via SOCS), and the sports weekly schedule, which you are accustomed to viewing.

Thank you to everyone that has already shared their feedback and we look forward to hearing more. Please share any thoughts or feedback by contacting communications@lordwandsworth.org.

As arrangements can sometimes change due to factors outside of our control, we recommend checking the calendar routinely.

College Uniform Shop.

Due to low levels of stock, and with the recent changes in some elements of the school uniform, our College uniform shop has been closed for the last few months. We are now delighted to let you know that it is now open (in a new location) and not only pre-loved LWC uniform items, but sizing samples from Schoolblazer too.

All proceeds from the shop go directly to the Foundation and we are always very grateful for donations of any uniform items.

If you would like to make a donation, please ensure that the clothing is clean, and in good repair. The clothing should be bagged-up (and sealed), labelled ‘Donation for the College Shop” and left with Matron or at the College reception.

To book an appointment at the shop, please contact the Admissions team (admissions@lordwandsworth.org

CCF on Exercise

The CCF were out on Exercise last weekend. After deploying to Bramley Training Area they set up their base and had to follow instructions to find their rations for the next 24 hours.

On Saturday the cadets were learning the skills of evacuating a casualty from contact, moving tactically in the field, observation, how to stay hidden, obstacle crossing, and the right positions for firing a weapon.

In the evening they put their new skills into practice with a stalk on an enemy position.

Sunday morning involved evacuating a casualty from a downed helicopter whilst under fire, and then defending their base from an enemy force determined to get in!

The cadets demonstrated a vast array of skills, leadership and character in dealing with a long weekend living in the Field.

Speech Day 2024

We hope you are looking forward to another celebratory Saturday event this weekend; we just wanted to bring a few logistical points into focus in advance of Saturday’s Speech Day.

Car Parking

The pupils will be warned to expect increased traffic on Speech Day, but please take the utmost care and adhere to the 15mph limit.  Thank you.

The one-way system will be in operation. From the main gate, the routes to all the car parks are clearly signed and there will be marshals to direct you too. Everyone (other than Park and Sutton) should enter through the main gates, please. The best entry for Park and Sutton will be Hyde Road i.e. at the Primary School entrance or West Gate. Following the picnics, the exit for all should be via Hyde Road or West Gate, please.

There is allocated parking for each of the Boarding Houses, and we will have marshals on duty to direct you. Please see the attached map for further guidance. For everyone’s safety, we want to minimise traffic flow in the interval between the ceremony and the picnics and therefore, respectfully, ask you to use the correct car park, please.

Sutton and Park Houses

Head towards Sutton and Park House/Sutton Hall. Continue past Sutton Hall, turn right and then straight on and out onto the athletics field via the gravel path. There will be signage and marshals to guide you.

All other Houses (including Junior)

Head up the main drive to the mini-roundabout at the top of the drive (by Northview, the Headmaster’s House). Turn left at the roundabout for Summerfield and Hazelveare. All remaining houses turn right. There will be signage and marshals to assist you.

Please note: Wheelchair users, or those who need assistance, should be in touch with the Headmaster’s Office in advance (Headsec@lordwandsworth.org, Mrs Alex Winkworth), to receive a permit to be displayed in your windscreen and brought to the attention of the marshals. Please follow the signs as per Sutton and Park Houses and as soon as your tyres are on grass turn left and look for the signs.

Toilets

For parents’ use only, toilets are provided behind the marquee and in Sutton Hall.  For Sutton Hall toilets, please enter at the gravel car park end, closest to Park House and through the large glass doors, they are clearly signed from there.

Seating Plan

The marquee has clear signage on the parents’ rows which are all in the central area of the marquee.  Can we please ask that you leave non-labelled rows for the pupils. In an ideal world, seating rows will be filled from the middle, outwards, please, in order to get everyone seated as efficiently as possible.

Footwear

Things are quite dry this week but please keep your eyes on the weather; traveling from any car park location to the marquee will involve going over grass.

Following the ceremony, everyone is invited to return to the environs of the relevant boarding house to enjoy the speeches and your own picnics.  We hope you have a wonderful morning and, should you also be a parent of an U6th Former, then a great time at the Leavers’ Ball in the evening, too.

Next Level Camps at LWC

Running at LWC for six weeks (July 15–August 23), Next Level Camps offer children (aged 4–14) a place to continue their academic and social growth. Designed by education specialists to enhance holistic child development, children are immersed in activities which boost their cognitive function and social engagement, whilst always having fun!

A day at camp is structured with a healthy mixture of STEAM workshops (focusing on the skills and knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), Sports, Activities, Arts and Crafts and Healthy Habits and Life Skills. Next Level Camps have eradicated repetitive holiday camp days and replaced them with an engaging, inspiring and progressive curriculum.
