LWC Footballers Win ISFA Shield

LWC’s U15A Girls’ Football Team has made history by lifting the Independent Football Association (ISFA) U15 Girls Shield.

The girls beat Hertfordshire’s Queenswood 4-1 on Friday (1st May) to be crowned winners of the national trophy.

The team is the most successful girls’ football side that the College has ever produced. Players were cheered on by coachloads of students and staff who made the journey from LWC to the headquarters of the Hertfordshire Football Association, which hosted the match.

The game concluded a hugely successful season for the girls, who also finished semi-finalists in the ISFA U15 Girls’ Cup.

“We started the season by telling the girls to have fun, work hard and be a team,” explained coach, Scott Sanderson. “What followed became far more than just a season. This is a team that has become united by commitment, belief and pride in representing Lord Wandsworth College.”

“It’s incredible to think that we are the first girls’ team in 100 years to achieve this at LWC,” admitted co-captain, Hollie. “For a group of girls who may not have had the opportunity to play football elsewhere because of the limited availability of girls’ teams, we’ve built something truly special. For me, this wasn’t just about winning, but showing people who we are, what we’re capable of and why girls’ football deserves to keep on growing.”

The Lord Wandsworth College Football Programme continues to yield strong results, with the U15A Boys’ Football Team reaching the quarter-finals of the ISFA Bowl this year. Football is a core component of LWC’s main sports offering and the college works with the Chelsea FC Foundation in providing UEFA-qualified coaching for training sessions.

Head of Football at Lord Wandsworth College, Georgia Bowers, added, “From a small squad to the most successful girls’ football team the college has seen, LWC’s U15A Girls’ season has been defined by hard work, resilience, and togetherness. Lifting the ISFA Shield reflects not only their results, but the belief, growth, and team spirit they’ve built along the way.”
