Lord Wandsworth College has been selected as a finalist in the Co-ed Independent School of the Year category in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards.
The award honours schools offering a strong co-educational environment, capable of demonstrating excellence during the past academic year.
“I’m thrilled that LWC has been recognised by the Independent Schools of the Year Awards,” reflected Headmaster, Adam Williams. “The wind has been in LWC’s metaphorical sails for several years now and this recognition provides not only a moment to delight and reflect on what has passed, but also the chance to imagine what’s to come beyond the horizon. We also continue to have a lot of fun and adventure in the process.”
LWC’s co-educational offering is rooted in parity, with academic outcomes for both sexes consistently aligned. Beyond these achievements, the extensive co-curricular programme at the College demonstrates an ongoing commitment to equality. Lord Wandsworth College reached the final stages of national competitions in both rugby and netball last year, whilst offering a range of other opportunities from marathon canoeing to cricket (resulting in call-ups to county sides for both boys and girls).
The College has recently opened phase one of its new 2.5-million-pound Sport, Fitness, Health and Adventure Centre. The Barn offers a sector-leading Strength and Conditioning Suite, designed to foster a lifelong love of activity, regardless of ability. Student voice remains at the heart of the LWC philosophy and pupils are always invited to collaborate on building projects like this, alongside school policies and interviewing senior staff, in a bid to gather a variety of perspectives.
The staff body at the College also reflects its ongoing commitment to offering a representative, co-educational environment. There is a 50/50 gender split amongst teaching staff.
Together with reaching the final of the Independent Schools of the Year Awards, LWC has also recently received a glowing review by The Good Schools Guide and completed its merger with St Neot’s Preparatory School in Eversley, following over four years of successful formal collaboration. Both schools have seen a growth in pupil numbers of 30 per cent over the last decade.
The winners of the Independent Schools of the Year Awards will be announced at a ceremony in London in October.
