At 6am on Saturday 3rd June 2023, Mr Hedley (Head of Catering) and four of his fellow Surrey Army Cadet Force adult volunteers will be taking their first steps on a 54-mile hike through the Perthshire foothills of the Cairngorms. They will be taking part in The Cateran Yomp – an event in aid of ABF (formerly Army Benevolent Fund) The Soldiers’ Charity. Walking under the banner of The Cambrai Tigers, the team will have 24 hours to complete this endurance event. The route takes participants through some of the most beautiful areas of the UK, but also some of the most remote – with daylight disappearing between 10pm and 3.30am! Having completed the 2021 Yomp in a little over 23 hours, Mr Hedley is keen to chop at least an hour or two off this time round. His LWC Giving Day ‘walk home/cycle to work’, will have no doubt been perfect preparation!
