Charity Committee

Hop into Easter Event March 2026 Charitywork

Our Charity Committee is a thriving, pupil-led group that gives students the opportunity to make a real difference both within the College and in the wider community. While the committee is particularly popular with Sixth Form students, we welcome pupils of all ages who are keen to get involved, support good causes and help bring fundraising ideas to life.

What makes the committee so special is that it is genuinely led by the pupils themselves. They decide which charities and causes they would like to support, suggest fundraising activities and take the lead in planning and delivering events throughout the year. Staff are there to support and guide when needed, but it is the pupils who drive the committee forward.

The group aims to organise at least a couple of fundraising events each term and there is never a shortage of enthusiasm or ideas. Over the years, pupils have run home clothes days, bake sales, tuck shops and Christmas tombolas, all of which have become popular fixtures in the school calendar. More recently, they have organised an outdoor summer cinema, screening a Disney film and selling movie snacks to raise money for charity.

The committee also enjoys supporting the fundraising efforts of other pupils and families within the College community, as well as working with local charities. Last year, members partnered with Helping Hand for Ukraine, organising a collection of essential supplies including generators, torches, batteries, technology equipment, warm clothing and arts and crafts materials for children sheltering from the conflict. It was a project that captured the imagination of the committee and demonstrated just how much can be achieved when young people come together for a common cause.

Every member is encouraged to play an active part. Some pupils enjoy promoting events and designing posters, while others prefer helping with planning, logistics or managing the finances. Whatever their interests, everyone is given the opportunity to contribute and feel part of the team. The committee is also fortunate to receive fantastic support from staff and departments across the College.

Each year, the committee is led by two pupil Heads of Charity. This shared leadership works incredibly well, giving students the opportunity to support one another while developing their confidence and leadership skills. Meetings are chaired and run by the pupils themselves, helping them to take ownership of the committee and its success.

Their hard work certainly pays off. Last year alone, the Charity Committee raised an incredible £7,500 for a range of charitable causes. More importantly, they inspired others to get involved, gave their time generously and showed what can be achieved through teamwork, compassion and determination.

We believe that developing a sense of philanthropy from an early age is invaluable. The Charity Committee offers pupils the chance to make a meaningful contribution, learn new skills and support causes they care about and most importantly, everyone is welcome!
