1200 acres of learning

The College welcomes pupils from all over the world and really values the contribution they make to our community. Our stunning 1200-acre campus is less than an hour from Heathrow Airport and central London. Hook Station, a ten-minute drive away, has a direct rail connection to London Waterloo. We are 30 minutes away from the historic city of Winchester and just over an hour to Oxford and the New Forest.

We offer our international boarders a home from home, allowing them to immerse themselves into the British culture in a wonderfully friendly and supportive way. All pupils join one of our eight boarding houses and have the support of their Houseparent and, of course, their Matron. In addition, all pupils are assigned a personal tutor who is responsible for both the academic and pastoral care of pupils and is always on hand to answer any questions or offer advice to both parents and pupils if needed.

Boarding

With just over 700 pupils on roll we are small enough to really know our students, yet big enough to offer an extensive range of facilities and a broad curriculum. Our students consistently achieve excellent exam results, while still enjoying our extensive co-curricular activities and leadership opportunities. In our Sixth Form, a growing focus on life after school means our pupils develop greater confidence and ambition as they prepare for university and beyond.

LWC 3

Our Head of Boarding organises a series of trips and activities at the weekends. Boarders can suggest trips they would like to go on and activities they would like to try. Recent trips include days out in Windsor and Winchester and visits to our local golf centre and to the cinema. Our extensive co-curricular programme includes activities such as golf, performing arts, Science clubs, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, and much more.

Why international students choose LWC

  • Academic Outcomes: We have strong academic standards and a curriculum that prepares pupils for top universities. At LWC we have a proven track record of academic success and support. See our results here – Exam Results.

  • Cultural Integration and Support: At LWC we offer a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, where pupils can easily integrate into school life and feel comfortable, both socially and culturally. Pastoral care and staff are sensitive to international pupils’ needs.

  • Language Support: We provide English language support to help pupils develop fluency and feel comfortable in class.

  • Safety and Well-being: Being away from home can be a big adjustment, so our international pupils’ safety and emotional well-being are prioritised. This includes strong pastoral systems, regular communication with parents, and a focus on mental health.

  • Extracurricular Opportunities: Beyond academics, LWC pupils engage in a wide range of activities, such as music, art, drama, sports and leadership roles, as these help them develop personal skills and make friends.

  • University Destinations: LWC has a long history of helping pupils gain admission to prestigious universities, both in the UK and internationally.

  • Location: LWC is one of the largest school campuses in the UK. A safe and beautiful 1200-acre site, with first-class facilities, is coupled with good transport links into London and the airports from Hook.

More information

  • Admissions

All registered candidates are invited to attend our online international pupil’s assessment day and sit the LWC online academic test, which can be taken either at their current school or, if they are in the UK, at the College. They will also have an interview with the Headmaster as well as with a senior member of staff, such as a Houseparent.

Candidates entering at Sixth Form may be asked to sit tests in the subjects they are thinking of studying at A Level, and whilst they do not need to have taken an IELTS assessment prior to entry, the expected level of English for Sixth Form is IELTS 5.5+.

  • English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Our Curriculum Support department and our EAL specialist supports pupils for whom English is an additional language. Teaching is provided in a supportive environment and aims to set pupils on a path to independent learning and success. Lessons are provided by experienced teachers in small groups.
  • Guardians

All students whose parents do not live in the UK are required to have a UK based guardian. This can be a family member or friend or, alternatively, an AEGIS accredited guardian (aegisuk.net).

Guardians must be contactable and able to accommodate the pupil in the case of an emergency and when school is closed, for example at half terms and exeat weekends. All guardians must be able to act with the full authority of parents.

  • Sponsorship

We are a UKVI licence holder and able to sponsor international students under the student visa scheme. Please contact the admissions team for more details (admissions@lordwandsworth.org)
