The beautiful façade of School House dominates nearly every publication produced by the College. Without doubt, the outside of this boarding House is iconic with beautiful architecture but only by coming inside and between those columns that you start to understand the real strengths of this House.
School House is supportive yet competitive and with an inclusive environment that is central to everything we do. Whether you are day, weekly, flexi or a full boarder, a family atmosphere is fostered within and between year groups. This is a House where you thrive as an individual but without every feeling like you are not part of the group.
The House parent Jonathan Pitt arrived in 2016 from Rugby School where he and his wife had previously taught. Their previous school experiences include: Haberdasher’s Aske’s, King Edward’s School Birmingham, Markham College in Lima, Bromsgrove School and Cundall Manor School. They live in School House with their two children and dogs and they pride themselves on continuing their family environment throughout the Boarding House.
The House Parent heads a highly experienced House Team with current Head of cricket, David Beven as the resident tutor and the exceptional matron team completing the day to day support for the boys in the House. There is also a very strong tutor team with many years of pastoral experience to help the academic and holistic well-being of the boys.
The House’s location at the very heart of the College means that pupils have access to all the nearby facilities including the playing fields right outside the front door and a short walk over to breakfast, lunch and evening meals in the school dining room. The House itself has 2 large common rooms with access to Sky TV, a Playstation 4, table tennis table and pool table. School House also benefits from May Court, a central quod area that is often used to cook marshmallows on the braziers during one of Hampshire’s warm evenings. Students in the House take responsibility for tutoring help for the younger boys, running the House blog, the House book club, Friday evening activities and running the tuck shop and charity activities in the House.
When you come to Lord Wandsworth and are staring at the beautiful façade of School House, please pop inside and find out what this dynamic and supportive boarding House is really all about.
