Haygate House is the College's newest girls’ boarding facility, and sees the 46 girls living in purpose built luxury. The house serves as the place where the girls can relax, away from the everyday pressures of an extremely busy school life, as well as home from home for those staying overnight. There is a mixture of day pupils and boarders, and all are integrated together. Each girl, irrespective of day/boarding status, enjoys the convenience of her own dormitory space and many day girls take advantage of this set-up, choosing to flexi-board at least once a week.
The house has two common rooms, kitchen facilities, networked and wi-fi computer stations and a private garden for the girls to relax in on sunny days! The 6th formers in Haygate have their own wing with common room area and kitchen and each girl is accommodated in an individual room.
There are house ‘socials’ organised by the girls themselves at least every half-term, and these include everything from Halloween or pudding parties to film evenings and quizzes. A different year group join the houseparents each week to share a meal that the girls themselves prepare in lieu of school tea. These evenings offer the perfect opportunity for greater bonding between staff and pupils and for the houseparents to catch-up on the gossip!
As well as Richard and Pili Kimber, the house is staffed by four Tutors, two resident and two visiting. Between them, they act as the academic tutors for the girls, helping with matters such as time management and the extra-curricular overview. Haygate has two matrons who look after the domestic arrangements and are they also especially good listeners.
The 4th Form Haygate girls won our 'Apprentice' competition to make a video to promote their house; take a look at their winning movie.
