Applying for a Place
There are three main entry points to the College: 11+, 13+ and 16+. We are able to accept students at other entry points provided there is a vacancy.
The admissions procedure differs depending on which entry point you are applying for. However, the completion of a formal registration form is the first step for all years. The completion of a registration form is taken as a clear statement of interest in the College and a non-refundable £75 (£150 for non EU candidates) registration fee is charged to cover the cost of administration, postage and the entrance tests.
At 11+ (from an independent prep school or a maintained school)
You may register your child at any time following your initial enquiry. However, we recommend the ideal time to be one year prior to entry.
All registered pupils are automatically invited to sit our entrance tests which take place at the College in the January of the year of entry. The tests are in Mathematics, English and Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning (IQ). Past papers are not issued; however, a comprehensive guide to the entrance tests is sent to all candidates at the time of invitation. Prior to testing, the pupil's current school is contacted to request a report on their progress and potential. Places are offered on the basis of the test results and school report.
11+ Entrance tests for 2014 entry will take place on Saturday 18 January 2014
At 13+ (from an independent prep school)
You may register your child at any time following your initial enquiry. However, we recommend at least three years prior to entry as we have a system of pre-testing candidates 21/2 years prior to entry (in Year 6).
The pre-tests are in Mathematics, English and Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning (IQ). Past papers are not issued; however, a comprehensive guide to the entrance tests is sent to all candidates at the time of invitation. Prior to testing, the pupil's current school is contacted to request a report on their progress and potential. Places are offered on the basis of the test results and school report. The offer of a place is conditional on the pupil reaching our required standard in the Common Entrance tests which take place at the prep school in the June of the year of entry.
From a maintained school or overseas
You may register your child at any time following your initial enquiry. Pupils are required to sit our entrance tests in Mathematics and English.
Prior to testing the pupil's current school is contacted to request a report on their progress and potential. Places are offered on the basis of the test results and school report.
Pre-test dates for entry in 2015 and 2016 are taking place in January 2014.
6th Form
Places are offered from 1 December in the year prior to entry.
Places are offered on the basis of an interview and a satisfactory report from the pupil's current school. Pupils applying whose first language is not English will be expected to sit an English entrance test ; we may also ask candidates to sit tests in subjects they are proposing to study at A Level.
Our current requirement for entry into the 6th form is a minimum of two B grades and four C grades at GCSE (or the equivalent) preferably with at least a B grade in the subjects to be studied at AS and A Level.
At Other Ages
We are happy for children to join us at 12+ (Year 8) and 14+ (Year 10) if we have spaces available. Places are offered on the basis of entrance test results in mathematics and English and a current school report.
