3rd Form Trip to WW1 Battlefields
3rd Form pupils recently went on a three day educational trip to the WW1 Battlefields of France and Belgium. They visited the Langemarck German Military Cemetery in Ypres and saw the German trench system in Bayernwald. The group then travelled south to visit the Somme Battlefield and toured locations such as the Lochnagar Crater and Delville Wood, the site of the South African Memorial. Day 3 was spent near Ypres, visiting the Menin Gate and finishing the tour at Tyne Cot the largest Commonwealth cemetery containing 11,961 graves.
A particular highlight was that three pupils were able to visit the locations at which relatives were buried or commemorated, moments when the scale of loss was brought home to us all.
